It is with great sadness that we report the passing, on 6 April 2023, of fib T5.1 member Konrad Zilch, at the age of 78.
Prof. Zilch was Professor Emeritus in Concrete and Masonry Structures at the Technical University of Munich, Germany. He was a civil engineer and professor in structural engineering and worked, for more than 25 years, on several aspects of FRP reinforcement in concrete structures. Among his many achievements, he was the driving force in introducing FRP reinforcement in the upcoming new version of Eurocode 2. Prof. Zilch was honoured with the Emil Mörsch Medal (2009), an honorary doctorate from the TU Darmstadt (2006) and the VDI plaque of honour (2005).
We will always remember Prof. Zilch as an excellent academic and mentor, as well as for his lasting contribution to our field, his critical mindset and passion in embracing innovations, and his gentle personality.
